Introduction: “The Tibetan medical tradition represents an interesting intersection between fundamental Buddhist ideas and the empirical observation of the human body. Janet Gyatso writes about the medical tradition: “How can one adjudicate between the Buddha’s word and empirical observation? In Tibet these questions were never more poignant than in the medical arts, for the visceral reality of the human body consistently confronted the claims of the medical tradition.” (Sources of Tibetan History, 363) (1) Reading this quote sparked my interest in Tibetan medicine as I myself am very interested in both traditional eastern medicine and “western” modern medicine.”
