Excerpt: Vajrabhairava is a wrathful emanation of Manjusri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, and is utilized as a meditational deity. The name is derived from a Sanskrit word which translates to “Indestructibly Frightening.”1 Manjusri is seen to emanate as multiple wrathful deities, most commonly Yamantaka, all surrounded by the central theme of extinguishing death as an understanding of how to break the cycle of samsara. The name Yamantaka is another Sanskrit word which itself actually means “Destroyer of Death,” as Yama is the god of death in Buddhism.
